Former HVAC technician and COO promoted from within to lead Ohio home services company
CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio, Oct. 1, 2026 — Five Star Home Services has named Matt Musselman chief executive officer. Musselman, who started his career as an HVAC technician, has served as the company’s chief operating officer since 2023.
Musselman joined Five Star in January 2021 as general manager of its Dayton and Cincinnati markets. After helping grow both, he was promoted to COO and has overseen operations across the company. Before Five Star, he worked in field service, sales and operations in the home and mechanical services industry.
“I believe the right people are put in the right place at the right time. Matt is the right person to lead Five Star,” said Kip Morris, chairman of the board and co-owner of Five Star Home Services. “I’ve watched him lead and grow with this company, and I know he’s ready for what comes next.”
As CEO, Musselman will work alongside Chief Financial Officer Josh Bell and the company’s Board of Directors, including Chairman Kip Morris and co-owners Brett Morris and Chris Adams, to guide Five Star’s next stage of growth.
“Great companies are built by teams, not one person,” Musselman said. “My job isn’t to have every answer. It’s to help set the direction, get the right people together and make sure we get it done.”
His priorities start with the fundamentals: taking care of customers, developing people, strengthening operational discipline and keeping the company healthy and profitable.
“When someone calls Five Star, they are inviting us into their home, often because something important isn’t working,” he said. “I want them to feel confident that we’re going to take care of them.”
Musselman said his Christian faith shapes how he sees leadership, and that Five Star’s mission, “We Serve Those in Need,” was part of what drew him to the company.
“To me, leadership is about stewardship and serving others,” he said. “Being in charge doesn’t make you more important than the people you lead. It means you’re more responsible for them.”
Through its Profit on Purpose model, Five Star dedicates 10% of its profits to serving those in need. That includes support for Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative, which helps people in recovery rebuild their lives through training in the skilled trades.
“That’s a big part of what makes us different,” Musselman said, “and I don’t want us to lose it as we grow.”
